Top right of the message list → Message list display options → choose Table View.

If you don’t see that icon, enable the Message List Header:

Menu → View → Layout → Message List Header (check it)

1. Enable the Menu Bar (if you don’t see File/Edit/View):
   Click the (Menu) button → View → Toolbars → check Menu Bar.
2. Go to View → Layout → Classic View
   This layout places the message preview pane below the message list.
3. If the preview doesn’t appear, press F8 to toggle the Message Pane on/off.
